Scott tried to fight back his anger as he walked Felicity to her door. He had tried to let it go, he really had, but just thinking about her questioning him about another woman made him even angrier. How could someone who had known him so well think that he would kiss her if he had someone he was involved with back at home? It didnât make sense.
Had their time apart changed him so much that she didnât recognize him for the man he was? He didnât think so. She knew him, really knew him. She had no reason for asking him something that questioned the very principles he lived by of being honest and up-front with everyone.
And then there was that comment she had made about it just being a kiss between friends. There had been nothing friendly about the kiss, as far as he was concerned. Maybe it hadnât been as passionate as some of the kisses theyâd shared before, but it had meant more to him than what she seemed willing to accept.
And that just made his blood boil. She seemed so sure that all there was left between them was friendship, when he knew there could be more.
âDo you want to come in?â she asked as she unlocked her door.
Walking inside with her right now would be a mistake. He was too wound up in emotions that could explode at any minute. So what, he was going to just keep all this inside? No. Heâd show her just how honest and up-front he could be.
He took a step inside and could immediately tell that sheâd hoped he wouldnât. As usual, this new Fliss wanted to avoid anything that could complicate her world. Well, tonight he was going to be her complication.
âIâll make some coffee,â she said as she moved past him toward the kitchen.
Her body brushed against his, and that was all it took for his body to burst into flames. He caught her wrist with his hand and very gently pulled her close to him. He didnât want to scare her. He would never do that.
âI think we need to set a few things straight.â Her body relaxed against his. There was no way she could ignore the proof of his desire as he held her against his hard body. Had she really thought that all the desire heâd felt for her before theyâd parted had just died away? Had she thought that because she had decided that she needed to end things between them, all the emotion and desire that heâd felt for her would cease to exist? That he could have just replaced her with someone else that easily?
It was as if, unknowingly, heâd spent half his life waiting for Felicity Dale. For her to grow up. For her to come to London. For her to realize sheâd made a mistake when sheâd sent him away. He was tired of waiting.
âWhat are we doing, Scott?â Her voice was husky with a sound heâd only heard once before.
